The improvements under this contract consisted of replacement of double-leaves bascule bridge along SR 968 (SW 1st Street) over the Miami River. The existing bridge was demolished and disposed at Julia Turtle Inshore Artificial Reef Site. The new bridge is 506-ft long x 56-ft wide. The structure includes cofferdams at both piers. Foundations are micropiles and 24” sq. prestressed piles. Bascule span is 325-ft. Trunion to trunnion 240-ft. 1.9 million lbs of structural steel. The project includes a new control tower with architectural finishes. Also new combi-pile bulkhead on both sides of the river.
